2014 Rally Lodging and Hotel Information
While August 2013 may seem very early to start planning for accomodations for the July 2014 trip to Oshkosh, it really is not. If you have been to AirVenture before, you know that local lodging can be hard to find and books up early.
Below is information about various lodging options for each day of the 2014 Rally and at the final destination, AirVenture.
Each entrant is required to make their own reservations at each location. The Rally Committee is actively working to setup accommodations at each stop. The information provided below is still being actively worked on. Please check back for updates.
**IF YOU PLAN ON CAMPING AT OSHKOSH**
We are asking for this information as early as possible becuase the number of campers affects our conversations with hotels for the number of rooms. Thank you for your help.
(1) Please notify the Committee as soon as possible via your entry form, or email to:
(2) Overnight camping at RAP and MSN is not permitted, but allowable at Wendover (ENV) which has limited space. Please notify the Air Rally Committee or Registrar of your intent to camp enoute at ENV.

OSHKOSH - AirVenture 2014
Arriving Sunday, July 27 – departure date is your choosing
There are many, many options for accommodations at AirVenture:
- Hotels & Motels
- On Site Camping (at your plane or at Camp Scholler)
- College Dormitories
- Private Home Rentals
- Indoor Camping at the YMCA
Here is the link to the official AirVenture Where To Stay page.
Hotels & Motels. Do we have a deal for you, at only $180 a night. A bargain by AirVenture week standards. The group hotel is the Ramada Inn in Appleton. We have 50 rooms blocked from Sunday, July 27 through departure the following Sunday, August 3 . A three-night minimum stay is required.
You may pick any three days or more out of that week-long block; if you will stay in the hotel after the rally arrival at OSH on Sunday, and stay through Tuesday night so you can attend the awards dinner .. you're covered. If you want to stay longer, no problem. If by some chance you want to camp a few days at OSH upon arrival, and then move to the hotel later in the week, that isn't a problem either as long as you take a three-night minimum stay from the block; for instance Wednesday night through Friday night.
Rooms are one or two queen beds, and this rate is valid for single through quad occupancy. The Ramada has complimentary in-room wired and wireless high-speed Internet access, with complimentary fax, copier, printer, scanner, phone line, computer in an on-site Business Center. Room rate includes a complimentary expanded hot breakfast buffet. Hotel has plenty of free parking, and is within walking distance to many dining options, as well as walking distance to EAA shuttle bus pickup.
Call the hotel directly to arrange your room reservations, and provide a credit card number for the deposit.
Ramada

Appleton, WI 54913

Please call this hotel directly at (920) 560-3000 to make your room reservation(s); ask for the Hayward Air Rally rate and provide a credit card number to hold the room. If you book online, you will not be able to get the special Rally room rate.
Getting Around. There is ample shuttle service between Appleton and AirVenture, although it is a pay-for service provided by a charter bus company. If you are considering renting a car, Hertz brings in literally hundreds of cars for EAA week and rentals can be picked up at the Orion FBO terminal on the north side of the field. There are on-field free AirVenture shuttle busses that will get you from our rally parking spaces, to the 'North 40' and beyond, which includes the FBO terminals. Check Hertz for Oshkosh 'Local Edition' rentals, but be advised: it's a seller's market during AirVenture, and the rates you pay may be higher than 'normal'. You might consider partnering up with another rally crew to share car expenses. There may be other rental car companies operating in the area during AirVenture: you could check Enterprise for instance, and see what they have available during that crush week. You'll likely need to call the local office at Hertz or whatever rental company you choose to determine what rental specifics there are for that week.
The Oshkosh Convention and Visitor's Bureau has opened up their link to private houses/rooms for rent during EAA week. Check it out here and make reservations on your own. A house can look expensive at first, but again, if you partner up with another crew, the costs become reasonable. You might also want to check out Craigslist for local rentals, but I've noticed that doesn't usually have much to offer until closer to AirVenture time. Keep in mind there are some legal protections offered through listings on the Oshkosh CVB, but you're on your own if dealing with Craigslist.
If you plan on camping **with your airplane**, no advance reservations are necessary. If you plan on camping in Camp Scholler, or elsewhere, with rental arrangements, you'll need to make those separately. Did you know? Many of the AirVenture vendors and exhibitors stay on field in rental RVs, which are placed on site by a private firm. Some of these are quite nice, and a lot of money .. but all of these are expensive, in most cases $1000 or more for the week. One such operator is EventRV, although there are others you can find with an web search.
The AirVenture lodging information page is continuously updated and lists all the typical housing options.
On-Site Camping One of the most popular ways to experience EAA AirVenture is to camp, whether drive-in camping in Camp Scholler or under the wing of your own airplane. You’ll be located right on the AirVenture grounds and be a part of the unique community of aviation enthusiasts. A three-day minimum is required and at least one person in your party must be an EAA member.
Aircraft Camping Flying in to Oshkosh and pitching a tent under the wing of your aircraft is perhaps the ultimate way to experience AirVenture. Shower facilities, free public Wi-Fi, on-site transportation, and access to food and supplies are available. Aircraft camping areas on the EAA AirVenture grounds are segmented into two categories:
1. General aircraft camping area (commonly known as the “North 40”) Showplane camping (Vintage, Homebuilt, Ultralight, Rotorcraft and Seaplane categories): See showplane camping guidelines at http://airventure.org/planning/showplane_guidelines.html We are still in discussions with EAA about special aircraft parking and on-field camping arrangements for the Hayward Air Rally. Information will be updated here as we receive it. General airplane camping (not ‘showplane’) guidelines are at http://airventure.org/planning/camping_with_aircraft.html All aircraft must be tied-down. No pre- registration is necessary and airplane campsites are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
2. Camp Scholler (Drive-In Camping) Camp Scholler is located adjacent to the EAA Convention grounds. Individual campsites are available for tents and vehicles of all sizes (including large RVs). You can rent a camper or RV from a private vendor, or tow it behind your airplane. Information about private RV vendors, we suggest you start with an Internet search for “RV rental Oshkosh, WI”
Camp Scholler amenities include: Two general stores, convenient access to the Fly-In Theater and Theater in the Woods evening entertainment, free public Wi-Fi, an internet café, food services, shower facilities, RV pumping station and portable pumping services. Designated camping areas are also available for those with disabilities, 24-hour generator use, and those who bring pets (bringing pets is generally discouraged, however).
Attendees staying in Camp Scholler can pre-purchase basic camping for any arrival date. Advance purchase provides the convenience of express registration at the campground entrance, including specially designated lines on peak arrival days.
A limited number of camp sites are available with water and electrical hook-ups in Camp Scholler. The campsites with the new hookups are available on a first-paid, first-served basis. Due to the limited number of improved sites, they are only offered based on a stay through the end of the event with no refunds for unused days. All basic sites in Camp Scholler are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Don’t worry - there are always plenty of sites available! Basic camping sites are $25 daily, and with electricity/water, $55 per day.
